3. Phantom Beats - Stealth - Functional Breaks 004

Top Welsh crew Phantom Beats rarely disappoint and this is another killer tune from them. 'Stealth' is their first single since the awesome 'Growler' was bootlegged by Hybrid along with another high profile DJ and comes out on top South West Breaks label, Functional Breaks. This year will continue to see the rise and rise of Phantom Beats.

Muzik Magazine

Phantom Beats - Stealth Fourth outing from FUNctional Breaks calls in fellow westsiders Phantom Beats for a high energy breakbeat wiggle. "Stealth" improves immeasurably once the desire to overpopulate the groove with throwback hardcore noise abates and melody is allowed to take over. The bleeping electro funk groove of Stabilizer is by far the pick of the bunch. 3/5

Breaksworld

A year or so ago these guys were unheard of, but after a bundle of quality releases they have carved themselves a niche and proved they are here to stay. Phantom Beats (Matt & Neil) come from Wales, which over the years has produced such musical greats as Hybrid and ummm, Tom Jones! Anyway "Stealth" is a rocket fuelled floor filler, which is not for the faint of heart. Following in the same vein as their last couple of tracks it combines growling basses and outstanding drum programming to great effect. This is by far the best thing the boys have done and I'm sure will be a blueprint for future releases. Support the cause kids!

Jockey Slut

Number 4 on Exeter's finest, and this time Phantom Beats make their debut with Stealth. The boy's original mix is straight-up nu skool business, but if you are after something a bit deeper opt for the Stabiliser mix, which is layered with funky synths and optimistic acid tones.

Phantom Beats / Stealth (Functional Breaks) Phantom Beats reach to F.U.N. with a different slant, offering the label its most rugged cut yet, and this one just booooms. Silken appear again giving their treatment to 'Stealth' The additional remix comes from Stabilizer, who smooth out the track with a cool housey feel.

Phantom Beats - Stealth (Functional Breaks) The finest moment to date from Cardiff Duo Neil Cocker and Matt Callahan, 'Stealth' kicks off with fiery old school venom building into a fantastic filtered ambient vocal hook. The remixes are of an equally high standard too.

Mixer Mag USA

Like I said before Phantom Beats have been busy lately. This release marks their third appearance on Functional Breaks and their first original work for the label. Their mix of "Stealth" features booming bass lines that seem to swarm over the track this on top of chopped beats that build to a nice melodic drop make this a tight new school track. The remix from Stabilizer is more on the mellow groove tip with conga drums defining the track while the female vocals run scales behind the drums. Synth lines give the track movement as they move in and out of the background. The Silken mix is a dark progressive break with an added piano line giving this track it's own distinct sound. This one could stand on it's own as an original because the only thing resembling the Phantom Beats original mix is the female vocals, but even they have been re-constructed to sound totally different. Synth washes and huge fills make this track a great progressive break mix while the beats keep the dance floor moving as the song picks up speed. 4.5
