Lazy
i are four Bristol boys who are dedicated to bringing their sound
to the live club scene. Although the band was formed late 1998, all four
members have been making electronic music and DJing in the West country
for over 5years. It was only until early 1999 that they decided that it
was time to get some of their music on vinyl. Their debut release for
the unbeatable Slalom Recordings imprint (Elements Bass EP) has already
received widespread critical acclaim and has been caned by all the usual
champions of the scene from Adam Freeland to Danny Macmillan. Indeed,
Four i, the A side of the EP, was quickly snapped up by Danny for his
New Shapes in Breaks mix album (out early August), along with Meat Katie
for his forthcoming mix album on R&S. Lazy i pride themselves in the unique
way they play live: whilst most electronic bands use sequencers or DATs,
Lazy i trigger their sounds manually from samplers, building up tracks
with layers of intricate individual loops. Live scratching combined with
samples taken from every genre of music gives Lazy i their individual
accessible sound: a hybrid of quirky funk meets break-beat electro. 'The
breakbeat scene needs producers like this in order to sustain a level
of freshness and credibility' (DJ Magazine. 5 - 18 June 1999) * Future
gigs in July/August Moles (Twitch, Bath) Breakbeat Culture, (Trinity,
Bristol), Sonic Mook Experiment (Scala, London), Beatz & Bobz (Cavern,
Exeter), Nu Shapes in Breakz launch party (Heaven, London) plus more tbc.
