Following a superb release from the South West’s hottest up n coming breaks duo Ben & Lex featuring a slamming remix from Boabinga & ID comes more dub heavy beats this time from one of the UK’s most established dub rockers Rob Smith (from legendary outfit Smith & Mighty) alongside one of the UK’s pioneer dub n breaks step DJ’s Tayo and production partner Care In The Community.
For those that don’t know (and shame on you) Bristol based DJ, musician and remixer Rob Smith has been producing for over 12 years under various guises such as More Rockers, Henry, Louis & Smith, Jaz Klash and Smith & Mighty which over the years have seen him release a series of seminal dub heavy inspired drum and bass, dub, breaks and hip hop. As part of the legendary production outfit Smith & Mighty he has been responsible for production duties on early Massive Attack material as well as influencing fellow Bristol boy and drum’n’bass legend Roni Size.
UK breaks legend Tayo can lay claim to pioneering the ‘Nu Skool’ breaks sound in the UK alongside fellow breaks innovators Rennie Pilgrem, Adam Freeland, Kevin Beber, Danny McMillan et el. With a love of all things dub and reggae running through his blood Tayo’s slant on the sound has been constantly inspired by this passion. With killer tracks such as ‘Fire Good’ (alongside Precision Cuts) ‘Wicked Dub’ (alongside Acid Rockers) and ‘Looking For A Session’ (featuring legendary Reggae vocalist Earl 16) and many more rocking dance floor cuts all pushing the dub and breaks sound Tayo is currently hosting his ‘Cool & Deadly’ parties at Fabric.
Following a brief collaboration in 2004 when Rob’s ‘No Burial’ appeared on Tayo’s ‘Beatz & Bobz Volume 3’ mix album (through Functional Records) it only seemed right that the duo met again through this west country imprint. ‘Give Love’ is a timeless dubby drum and bass cut as you could only expect from this Bristol legend whilst Tayo and production partner Care In The Community deliver a rolling breaks mix to ensure whichever side of the fence you sit, if you like your dub and bass, you gotta be into this.
