Following on from the success of the debut release Pantaloon, which reached no 3 in the DJ Mag charts and received support off a host of big name DJs from Danny McMillan to Freddy Fresh the second release from Functional Breaks again features Exeter based producer The Spoon Wizard. 'Shoe Monkey' is the first track from The Spoon Wizard to feature local rapper Neil who is working with TSW on his album project. 'Shoe Monkey' is in same funky breaks style of Pantaloon but this one keeps on building and has all ready caused mayhem at Beatz & Bobz where it has been played for the last few months. Phantom Beats are again on remix duty, this mix being their first release after their own 'Growler' monster and again is going to send dance floors crazy Afterlife have contributed a more laid back version which is hardly surprising as they have had tracks on the last four Café Del Mar albums and are regularly to be found recording on Ibiza with Jose Padilla. Afterlife have their Simplicity album being released by 'Hed Kandi' in the early summer with an album of remixes for which TSW has been asked to contribute a mix. Shoe Monkey is getting Support from Tayo, Hyper & Hybrid

The Spoon Wizard Shoe Monkey (Functional Breaks)

Only the second release from this West country Label (affiliated to Exeter's excellent Beatz & Bobz) and they're already acquiring the swagger of seasoned professionals. With good reason too by the sounds of things. A celestial intro, a subtle 303 line and an inspired rap from local wordsmith Neil are all underpinned by a chunky rolling beat. Refreshingly Melodic and possessing more than enough dancefloor bounce to the ounce. If only everything was this simple.

The Spoon Wizard Shoe Monkey (Functional Breaks)

Exeter's finest return with another quality release. This time it features and indecipherable rap that twists and turns and is funky and fast. And though it has no story to tell, it doesn't seem to matter. Phantom Beats, Meanwhile, turn the lights out on their mix with some whoopee cushion Bass and two-step drums.

Whats On South West March

Shoe Monkey' The Spoon Wizard Functional Breaks

This southwest label has its roots firmly planted in the breakbeat and they don't disappoint with this, their second release. Deep, brooding progressive house underpinned by a subtle rolling breakbeat and haunting strings, all topped off with a rap vocal from local rapper Neil inna kide of yankee style (but not too O.T.T., thankfully), results in a tidy little dancefloor number - perhaps best in its floaty and sublime Afterlife mix.
