FB 014 Frakkar 'Slide'
Written & Produced by Frakkar
Remixed by Spoon Wizard

This release see's the debut for our new act Frakkar who, sticking to our policy of our artists coming from west of Bristol hail from Swansea. Frakkar AKA Bob and Al have been writing together for the last 18 months but this is their first full release. You will be hearing a lot more from Frakkar through the coming year with mixes coming for a variety of artists and more releases for FB and there is talk of live shows, Al has had plenty of experience of live work, he plays drums for a certain Welsh act that have seen national chart action!
Remix duties fall to Spoon Wizard who pumps the track up showing a shift in style after finishing his debut album. This is probably the most 'for the floor' track to come from Spoony for quite a while and is going to be part of their live set for their spring tour. The next two releases from Functional Breaks will be samplers from his debut album 'Believe or Suffer' with four tracks taken from the album remixed by Will White (Propellerheads), Sensei, Stabilizer and our good mates in Wales, Phantom Beats. Watch out for them at the beginning of February
The original mix has been signed for the next instalment of the Global Underground mix CD series, mixed in Melbourne Australia by none other than Dave Seaman!

Functional Breaks release FB014 'Slide' from Frakkar is included on the Global Underground CD 'Dave Seaman in Melbourne' and can be checked out here on MP3. 'Slide' is available on Functional Breaks with a storming mix from Spoon Wizard. Slide is also available on a limited edition triple vinyl boxed set 'Dave Seaman Melbourne'

Ministry

Slide
Frakkar
Continuing to build on the foundations the label has already built with previous releases, Functional Breaks add to the plot with this infectious breakbeat 12 inch. Quirky effects mix with a twisted vocal sample that sounds very familiar. Grinding and hypnotic, it sometimes casts a magic spell. 8/10

Simply the best vinyl to come from Functional Breaks since they started picking up the pace. Apparently affiliated to Swansea's finest, Hybrid. Frakkar has a deep sound, which will appeal to pro housers and breakers alike (apparently licensed to a Dave Seaman comp). The driving bassline is what makes this a must for the box and the 'Stabilizer Mix' is well worth a shout you know!

Frakkar
Progressive electro breaks from a new FB signing, with a catchy guitar loop and a vaguely familiar-sounding vocal. Spoon Wizard takes time out from finishing his excellent debut album to slow the groove down and beef the beats up. One of the most consistent of labels does it again.

Slide Frakkar
Debut release on Functional for Swansea's Frakkar. The original, on the
A-side, is quite percussive sounding and has a live feel to it, with a sort
of acoustic guitar sounding riff to start with, giving it quite an
atmospheric feeling, before breaking down and coming back with a nice smooth
bass line. On the B-side, Functional regulars, Spoon Wizard toughen things
up a bit, chop up the bass, and add some synth action, resulting in a good
rework that keeps the originals feeling, but gives a more dancefloor aimed
mix. (iytal) 710
