Effect 'Aquathought' Mixes from Spoon Wizard and Stabilizer |

Blue
Effect has their first full release on Functional Breaks and they carry
on with their take on the deeper side of the breaks sound. Fresh from
their reworking of Soul Electric's 'Surrender' for In-Flight Entertainment
label Phil and Dan carry on with the Breakstep vibe that saw their remix
of Spoon Wizard's 'Me & Spoonice' finding its way on to compilations
from Stanton Warriors and Ashley Casselle, with this release finding
its way on to Danny McMillan's 'High Altitude Breaks' compilation already.
Mixes from the ever regular Spoon Wizard who has finished his album project 'Believe or Suffer' which will be seeing a full release in the New Year and from Stabilizer who takes us on a housey tip giving the package something a little different than his recent releases for us and Plastic Raygun. |

Functional Breaks
have been a pretty consistent label since their inception, now though,
with their eleventh release they have broken their own mold and released
a Break-Step / Step Breaks / Steppy (whatever) thing.Don't get me wrong
it's actually a pretty deep and groovy affair, just different from a
label that had established its sound and if ever a sub genre split a
scene it's this 'Step' business. Skipping beats and some nice mellow
stabs kick 'Aquathought' along nicely, whilst the production is as crisp
as could be. Most Breakheads who don't do the Steppy stuff should check
it out, it might just change your mind. Remixes come from Stabilizer
going down a House route and Spoon Wizard, who always remixes Functional
releases and does the job well enough here. |

| IFunctional Breaks, the unfancied outsider from out west, cock another snook to the breakbeat league's more fancied outfits, once again pulling out the goods. A Jazzual garage vibe if you will, similar in flavour to a Landslide record, and superior to the excellent Stabilizer and Spoon Wizard efforts on the flip. Buy. 4/5 | ||

| This track is absolutely wicked. The cut is loud, the beats 2 - step the bass swirls, snarls and then booms. And then your rocking, you want to dance! Believe - as you come up for air the soothing sensuous harp string set you up for quality 2 step break and percussion pressure right through the outro. Get it! 5/5 |
