Functional
Breaks hits double figures with Silken's first single release for nearly
12 months. Silken have been busy writing music for computer games and
material for their own label Trancend. Their new release 'Reach Out'
is another progressive roller in the same vein as last years Gizmo.Remix
duties fall again to label stalwart Spoon Wizard, who has turned in
another mix that just builds and builds in his trademark style.
The second mix brings the flavour of San Francisco to the label with our second West Coast mix, following on from B-Sides working of Sensei, an·ten·nae is Adam Ohana who runs the successful Eyephunk distribution and label based in San Francisco as well as running the Eyephunk breaks night and Fusion Festival. Adam has quite an international reputation as a Trance and breaks DJ playing at major events in Tokyo, Australia to as far as Morocco. an·ten·nae gives this breaks remix a serious acidy bass line with some very interesting influences. Keep your'e dials tuned in for more music in the future from an·ten·nae. |

| Silken
delivers an outstanding trance break that is deep and dark, with dub elements
and thick distorted bass. The title comes from the old female vocal sample
"reach out" but it's been tweaked to sound fresh. San Francisco's
Adam Ohana handles the remix duties under the an-ten-nae guise by bringing
psy-trance influences to the world of breaks, with an aggressive mix that
is built around a driving beat and ethereal pads. Either way you can't
go wrong. 9 |

| It's been a whole year since "Gizmo", Silken's last single on Functional Breaks. Now they're back and taking it a step further with this absolutely blinding progressive breaks production - a powerful, gorgeous tune with rolling beats, lush synth and effective female vocals. If that wasn't all, there are two great remixes on the flip to choose from. Functional Breaks' own Spoon Wizard beefs up the bass on his mix while an-te-nae (an alias for Adam Ohana from San Francisco's Eyephunk) impresses with a harder electro-influenced mix. | ||
